Today the beachside suburb attracts around 2.3 million visitors each year, many arriving by ferry from Circular Quay.

Award winners were determined based on the quantity and quality of traveller reviews and ratings for beaches on TripAdvisor, gathered over a 12-month period.

This means lesser known, out of the way beaches are less likely to make the cut.
